JCDecaux announced three wins at the 2026 CB News Grand Prix des Régies and Grand Prix des Médias on 9 September 2026: the overall Grand Prix des Régies, Best Out-of-Home Media Partner and Best Communications Stunt – Special Activation.

The creative award recognized its March campaign for Céline Dion’s return to the stage. According to the JCDecaux release, anonymous handwritten lyrics appeared on 130 street-furniture assets without logos or dates, followed by a simultaneous reveal in 12 international cities.

The award news is current to September; the campaign itself ran earlier in the year. That distinction matters when reading the story as a creative case study.

Why recognizable lyrics can support a teaser

BillboardGuide’s analysis is that a familiar cultural reference can give audiences something to identify before the advertiser supplies the full announcement. In this case, the creative structure made recognition part of the encounter.

That approach asks more of the audience than a conventional branded poster. It can work when the clue has meaning to the people likely to see it, but it can also leave an unfamiliar viewer with no useful message. For planners, the relevant question is whether enough of the intended audience can connect the clue to the eventual reveal.

A teaser should therefore have a defined purpose: create anticipation, invite recognition or establish a question that the next phase answers. Removing a logo is a creative choice, not a strategy by itself.

The reveal carries the conversion task

An anonymous opening needs a follow-up that supplies the missing information. For an event campaign, the reveal should make the performer, proposition and next action easy to understand. A coordinated rollout also needs practical control over posting dates and any digital creative changes.

BillboardGuide’s coverage of Element’s Laila teaser and reveal in West Cairo offers a different application of that structure. It is useful as a comparison of sequencing, rather than evidence that entertainment and property campaigns produce the same response.

For an advertiser considering a similar approach, reserve enough budget and time for both phases. Curiosity without a clear answer can make the initial spend difficult to convert into recognition of the actual offer.

Social amplification needs separate measurement

JCDecaux reported estimated campaign impressions of 6.74 billion and earned media value of US$64.2 million. The release does not set out enough methodology to treat those figures as unique outdoor reach, revenue or return on ad spend.

The distinction is especially relevant for campaigns designed to travel beyond the physical placement. A photograph of a poster, a news story and a person passing the original site represent different kinds of exposure. A useful evaluation should identify which channels contribute to each total and how duplication is handled.

BillboardGuide’s article on evaluating OOH metrics beyond impressions provides context for assessing what an exposure figure does and does not establish.

What advertisers can take from the award-winning structure

The transferable lesson is to align the creative device with the audience’s existing knowledge. An established artist can draw on familiar songs; another advertiser needs to identify its own recognizable reference before borrowing the format.

Before commissioning a teaser, answer four questions:

  • What will the intended audience recognize in the first execution?
  • What information is deliberately withheld, and why?
  • When and where will the reveal reach the people exposed to the teaser?
  • What evidence will show that the campaign increased recognition or action?

The awards recognize creative and media work. A separate buying decision still needs a suitable audience, effective locations and a realistic measurement plan. Brands developing a staged outdoor campaign can use BillboardGuide’s media planning service to coordinate the inventory and timing around each phase.
