QMS is supporting the Los Angeles Rams with localized digital outdoor creative in Melbourne through a partnership announced on 8 September 2026.

QMS identifies itself as the team’s Outdoor Media Partner for its Australian appearance and says the campaign uses its Melbourne Digital Large Format network. The announcement links the activity to the game scheduled at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 11 September.

Reported creative combines American football references with Melbourne locations and local language. This article considers that campaign in the 11 September edition; it does not report a match result or campaign outcome.

Translate the event into the host city

BillboardGuide’s analysis is that localized creative gives an international sporting brand a way to connect with a city beyond placing its logo there. The audience encounters familiar references alongside an event that may be new to some viewers.

The balance matters. A reference should be recognizable enough to add meaning without making the overall message difficult for a visitor or casual fan to understand. If the execution requires specialist knowledge of both the sport and the city, the potential audience becomes narrower.

For event advertisers, a useful creative brief identifies the shared reference: a place, a routine or an expression that helps connect the event with local life. The event identity then needs to remain clear within the same artwork.

The campaign window changes the message

An event-led outdoor campaign has a built-in timeline. Before the event, the job may be to establish anticipation or explain the occasion. Around the event, an execution may need to emphasize participation or relevance to the day. Afterward, a different message may be required.

These are planning options, not confirmed stages of the QMS campaign. Advertisers should define which stages they are buying and set clear rules for when time-sensitive creative expires.

The production schedule should also account for approval delays and contingencies. A dated invitation that remains on screen after the event can undermine otherwise strong artwork.

Sporting context can come from participation as well as sponsorship

BillboardGuide’s HOKA borough-challenge coverage offers a different sports-related model, using running activity as the basis for updated creative.

The comparison illustrates two possible briefs: connect a team or event with its host city, or connect a brand with the audience’s own activity. Neither is universally preferable. The right choice depends on the available rights, audience and desired response.

For a team partnership, confirm what the agreement actually permits. Creative approvals, marks, talent imagery and any exclusivity requirements should be resolved before adapting the idea for another advertiser.

Event interest is not a campaign impression count

A prominent sporting occasion can provide useful context for an outdoor plan. Its broadcast audience or ticket sales cannot be treated as the audience for a billboard schedule.

Buyers should obtain delivery and audience estimates for the actual screens purchased. A campaign evaluation can then examine a relevant outcome, such as recognition of the partnership or engagement with a stated offer, using a method appropriate to the objective.

BillboardGuide’s guide to OOH metrics beyond impressions helps frame that review alongside physical visibility and audience relevance.

What the Melbourne executions offer planners

The campaign provides a current example of localization as the creative mechanism for an international sports brand. The transferable question is whether the city reference helps people understand and remember the event proposition.

Advertisers planning event-linked outdoor activity can use BillboardGuide’s media planning service to coordinate the location shortlist, campaign window and creative requirements around the occasion.
